Hardware (Data Creation & Connectivity)

Design the physical layer where data is born—sensors, handhelds, cameras/vision, edge devices—and the secure pathways that move only what matters.

Highlights

Signal architecture

Collection type, placement, calibration; durability for field ops

Edge-first design

Filter/aggregate/compress at the edge to cut noise and cloud egress

Robust connectivity

Endpoint/ gateway selection for downstream applications

Importance & common pitfalls

The hardware layer is where truth is born: sensors, handhelds, cameras, and edge devices (plus the links that carry their signals). It matters because edge computing can slash latency and bandwidth needs, letting you ship only the minimum useful data and cut cloud egress/storage costs—without losing fidelity. Typical failure modes: noisy/biased readings from poor calibration and sensor drift, weak device identity/updates, and “collect-everything” designs that balloon spend and clutter downstream analytics.

What we do differently

What you get

  • A right-sized telemetry model (minimal useful data)

  • Reference designs + BOMs + working designs + deployment runbook

  • Monitoring + alerting SLAs, incident playbooks

Practical examples:

  • Can’t find products, tools/stock fast
Solution: Tag & Find Inventory — stick BLE/RFID tags on bins/tools; a phone or tiny gateway logs “last seen” and shelf/location.
Outcome: Labor efficiency, lead time reduction

  • Product spoilage from temp swings
Solution: Fridge/Room Temp Watch — Wi-Fi probes text/email when out of range and auto-log readings to a sheet.
    Outcome: Inventory costs, scrap costs

  • Internet/power hiccups stall work
Solution: Internet/Power Watchdog — small ping monitor + smart plug/UPS alerts on outages and can auto-reboot the modem.
Outcome: Less downtime, clear uptime log for your ISP.

  • Leaks cause surprise damage
Solution: Leak/Moisture Alerts — under-sink/boiler sensors send instant alerts with exact location.
Outcome: Catch issues early, avoid repairs and closures.

  • Files scattered, no backups
Solution: Server-in-a-Box - plug-in mini PC/NAS for shared files, a simple dashboard, and nightly local + cloud backup.
Outcome: Everything in one place, safer data, quick restores.

Engagement model

  • Discover (1–2 wks) → Field pilot (2–6 wks) → Scale kits & training → Handover & SLAs.
